About Me:
I grew up in Piermont, this is my hometown. I remember trains blocking Main street to make deliveries to the factory and later using the shuttered factory as a playground. I also remember the banning of commercial fishing, and the impact these factors had on Piermont’s economy, and I marvel at our reinvention as a scenic bedroom community and tourism destination. I also understand that these and environmental changes bring new challenges that require us to evolve.
I have served on the Piermont Board of Trustees since 2018 and previously on the Planning Board from 2013. As Trustee, I have served as Liaison to our Planning Board, Zoning Board, Building Department, Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and Parks Commission. I have also served as the Chair of our Comprehensive Plan Committee and Liaison to the Rockland County Hazard Mitigation Plan update committee. I have been a member of our Fire Department for over 15 years, where I currently serve as Director and Accountability Officer, and previously as Dive Lieutenant. As a member of our Civic Association, I created our COVID food pantry program and help manage our summer concert series operations. If you have experienced flooding events, you probably know me already as one of the volunteers trying to help.
I serve as the Chair of our Waterfront Resiliency Commission, in which capacity I have worked to obtain our Climate Smart Communities and Clean Energy Communities certifications. Under my leadership, PWRC successfully secured funding for our first ever Comprehensive Zoning Plan, for which we were recognized with a Riverkeeper Wavemaker award in 2023. As Chair, I have worked to develop a Municipal Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Climate Action Plan, as well as a Community Greenhouse Gas inventory, and Sparkill watershed assessment. Our N2N notification system has been recognized as an innovative approach to emergency communication by the Flood Resilience Network.
Significant investments in infrastructure that will require the assistance of State, Federal, and NGO sources will be critical to Piermont’s future, and must be pursued with both urgency and agency. My extensive work with our grant writer and participation in County, State, and Federal hazard mitigation programs have opened up new funding opportunities and secured the Village substantial financial support already, with more on the horizon.
In addition to my experience working on both SLR land use planning and emergency management, and the relationships that I have cultivated along that journey, I believe that I offer the characteristics of honesty, tenacity, and empathy to help guide our community. Quality of life, public safety, and the environment, both natural and built, are top priorities for me. Planning and implementing adaptations to future conditions and developing innovative approaches to resiliency are at the core of my commitment to community leadership. Community engagement and government transparency are essential to navigating these challenges and I will give them the attention and resources they require.
I am running for Mayor so that I can restore government accountability and transparency, and rebuild the public trust in my hometown, Piermont. I believe that my qualifications uniquely position me as an asset to the Village, so I am asking for your support in the upcoming election. If you share these values and priorities for our community, get involved! Tell your friends why you are supporting my candidacy and use your vote as your voice. Early voting begins 10/25 at Orangetown Town Hall, and the general election is November 4th at St. Johns.
My Priorities:
- Quality of Life & Public Safety
- Controlling costs and building a sustainable budget
- Improving government transparency and accountability
- Preparing for Climate Change impacts and investing in resiliency
- Preserving diversity of housing options to aid volunteer first responders
- Expanding public engagement and improving dissemination of information
- Reducing Piermont's carbon footprint and protecting our environment
How you can help:
This election is meaningful for Piermont, so get involved! Turnout is often small in local elections, and every vote helps, so please make sure to tell your friends why you are supporting my candidacy, and use your vote as your voice in early voting or on November 4th. Make a plan to vote together, offer to carpool for folks who could use the help, make sure everyone who can, casts their ballot.
We can do better. Together, we can heal our community, and address the economic, environmental, and social challenges we face today, to chart a sustainable future for Piermont.
